평양과기대, 2012-2013년도 섬머 인턴 모집 [과기대산하 연구소]

The Pyongyang Summer Institute in Survey Science and Quantitative Methodology (PSI), an innovative higher education program in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK, or North Korea), is looking for interns for the 2012-2013 academic year. Through academic exchange between international scholars, PSI offers an unprecedented platform for long-term dialogue and science diplomacy with the DPRK.

The first PSI launched this July 2012 at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, DPRK’s only private and international university. In its launch year, PSI brought 13 international scholars of survey methodology and statistics from seven countries to teach over 250 DPRK university students. PSI (1) offers the academic and pragmatic training in statistics, survey methodology and interdisciplinary research to graduate students, professors, and professionals in the DPRK; (2) fosters scholarly and educational exchange with the DPRK; and (3) invests in the students as future leaders of survey statistics and methodology in the DPRK and beyond. Better statistical training in promises professional development across a host of fields like education, business, and health in the DPRK.

PSI offers a flexible yet rigorous year-long off-site internship for students and professionals interested in international affairs, statistics, survey methodology, and East Asian affairs. As an intern, you will directly help develop an innovative program for DPRK science diplomacy. Typical tasks include: supporting PSI faculty research, coordinating PSI’s grant program for DPRK students, communicating with media outlets, organizing and participating in briefings, overseeing logistics for the 2013 program, and managing meetings with PSI faculty. Interns may have the opportunity to assist faculty and travel to North Korea in 2013; talk with preeminent international leaders in science diplomacy; participate in briefings with governmental agencies, NGOs, and universities; and more. Interns work roughly 4-8 hours a week.
