The men’s rugby team at the US Military Academy at West Point has been temporarily disbanded after members of the team sent sexist e-mails to each other, the college said yesterday.

An investigation at the military academy revealed that 60 cadets took part in an e-mail chain that was deemed “immature” and “disrespectful,” said academy spokesman Lt. Col. Webster Wright.

“It was locker-room trash,” he said.

Although the exact content of the messages was not revealed, Wright told the military’s Stars and Stripes newspaper that the e-mails included pictures of team members with other cadets.

“So part of it was making fun of the cadets in the pictures, and part of it was derogatory comments to others in the pictures,” he said.

The cadets will complete a supervised rehabilitation program.

Under the school’s strict conduct code, a cadet can be disciplined for merely receiving an improper e-mail and not taking action.

The investigation took place following a series of military scandals — including one involving an Army sergeant at West Point who secretly photographed women on the campus, including in a bathroom.
