Dr. Choi Soon-hong is the Assistant Secretary-General and Chief Information Technology Officer of the United Nations Secretariat. In this capacity, he is responsible for the overall direction and performance of information management, communications and technology activities in the Organization. He acts as the principal representative of the United Nations Secretary-General on information and communications technology issues. Dr. Choi is responsible for all substantive and operational needs on information and communications technologies (ICT) of the United Nations. This involves developing, implementing effective strategies, policies, and systems to modernize and strengthen the United Nations.

Dr. Choi has over 30 years of technical and management experience in the public and private sectors. He worked for the International Monetary Fund and rose to its top ICT executive. He has also significant experience in the private sector including working for a Fortune-100 company and a small entrepreneurial firm. Dr. Choi has lectured and researched in the fields of public policy, strategic management, and innovation. He has a PhD in strategic management and public policy from the George Washington University, a MBA from the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton Business School), and a Master of Science degree in computer science from the George Washington University. He has presented his work in a number of major international conferences and meetings. His recent interests include strategic management of public institutions, organizational change and learning, technology competition and standards, ubiquitous computing, crisis information management, and ICT for development.
