Samsung’s latest, cutting-edge smartphone is too hot for the subway — literally.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority on Tuesday urged riders to turn off their Samsung Galaxy Note 7 after reports that the devices were igniting during charging because of a defective battery — the same issue that prompted the transit agency to ban riders from carrying hoverboards onto buses and trains.

“MTA customers should turn off #Samsung Galaxy Note 7 before entering station or boarding bus due to concerns device's battery can ignite,” the agency tweeted.

So far, no reported incidents of flaming phones were made to the MTA, according to the agency, which has a rule prohibiting riders from bringing flammable or hazardous materials into the transit system.

And now that the MTA has rolled out buses with charging ports, the agency also urged riders against plugging in the devices.

The MTA advises riders with the device to power it off before entering stations or boarding buses or trains.

The MTA is following the lead of New Jersey Transit’s request that commuters turn off their Galaxy Note 7 devices before going to a station or boarding a train or bus.

The Federal Aviation Administration also warned flyers to keep the Galaxy Note 7’s out of checked baggage and to keep them off during the flight.

The ignition problem with the battery led Samsung to issue a global recall for 2.5 million smartphones.
